This is the last newsletter of the IoTAC project covering the period between June and August 2023. The project has been successfully completed and reached its goals by validating the secure IoTAC platform in 4 different service environments.

The H2020 IoTAC project has been successfully completed

The consortium of industrial actors, research groups and academia from seven European countries designed and implemented a security platform for IoT architectures.

31. August 2023 – The Security by Design IoT Development and Certificate Framework with Front-end Access Control (IoTAC) project has reached its goals and came to an end with the successful completion of its four demonstration programs.

The project implemented an IoT security platform comprising the combination of multiple, flexibly configurable security modules – access control, attack detection, honeypot, runtime monitoring system, data repository & dashboard, and an internet gateway – and validated its operation and performance in four close-to-real-life pilot operations. The pilots have been organized in different industry and consumer domains – Prosumer cell, Connected car, Drone operation, and Smart home – to be able to assess the platform performance and limitations under various conditions and requirements.

The pilots have set numerous KPIs comprising security and performance metrics. The goal was to measurably increase the protection of the service environment without compromising the operational performance of the services. After a number of iterations all the modules and the combined platform not only met but exceeded the original expectations and during the course of actions the architecture and related integration requirements have also been substantially simplified.

After the successful completion of the project, the consortium partners will continue improving the technology and will jointly exploit the project results with the support of the IoTAC Association – formed by the project partners – that will coordinate all related activities.

EU H2020 Research and Innovation projects demonstrate their research results at the Barcelona Cybersecurity Congress

24. January 2023 – The European Research Innovation for Cybersecurity (ERICyB cluster) is proud to announce that seven of its projects will be jointly exhibiting at the Barcelona Cybersecurity Congress, taking place between January 31st and February 2nd, 2023. This congress is co-located with the IoT Solutions World Congress, which is the leading IoT congress and exhibition not only in Europe but globally.

The seven projects that will be participating in the exhibition are: ASSURED, BIECO, CYRENE, FISHY, IoTAC, SANCUS and SIFIS-HOME. All of these projects have received funding from the Horizon 2020 program of the European Commission. The projects will demonstrate state-of-the-art research results in various technical fields of cybersecurity, more specifically IoT security, and how they contribute to the protection of supply chains and operations of diverse industrial and consumer domains.

You can meet the researchers and developers who are working to improve the security of IoT architectures and supply chains at the stand C350 and this is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable insight into the latest developments in cybersecurity and IoT security.

The Front-end Access Management (FEAM) module of the IoTAC architecture is a new, patent-protected concept of access management. All FEAM transactions are authenticated and authorized on the user’s chip card.

D5.1 presents the implemented functions of the IoTAC architecture and provides photo documentation about the operations and performance of the following IoTAC modules: (i) the Front-end Access Management System, (ii) the Runtime Monitoring System, (iii) the Attack Detection System, (iv) the Honeypot as well as (v) the core platform, the secure IoT Gateway. The deliverable also describes the demonstration sites where the pilots – Prosumer cell, Smart home, Connected car, and Drone operation – are running.
