In its latest report, Trend Micro surveyed 900 cybersecurity leaders in manufacturing, electric utilities, and oil and gas industries from the US, Germany and Japan, in February-March 2022.
The key findings:
- 89% of respondents had manufacturing, and energy supplies affected due to cyberattacks in the last 12 months and the ICS/OT disruptions lasted for 4 days or more in almost half of the organizations.
- The average financial damage amounted to approximately $2.8 million USD.
- About half of the organizations faced ICS disruptions once every two months.
Still, nearly half (48%) of those who have experienced at least some disruption, did not take enough action to improve their cybersecurity to minimize future cyber risks.
It is necessary to establish a system that can understand what happened, analyze the cause of the incident, anticipate attack scenarios in the ICS/OT environment and implement appropriate security controls.
